Hello Friends! We have been busy over the last few months with involvement from NTW and Paul Nicol, NTW's Patient & Carer Involvement Facilitator, who has given us help with various things over the last few months, including starting to get the paperwork sorted for applying to become a registered charity! I would like to thank Paul personally and on behalf of the group for the help he has given whilst being with us, it has been invaluable!! We wish him every success in the reapplication for his post in the very near future! Also our friends at Active Communities Eyemouth, part of Eyemouth District Community Trust, visited us last Wednesday with a cheque for our share of funds they raised for us and another Mental Health charitable organisation, by taking part in a 5K Twilight Run/Jog/Walk back in August! A cheque for a fantastic £350 was gratefully received by our Chairman & Treasurer Mr Trevor Bird (picture below), a huge thank you goes to all who took part in the event!

Hello friends!
We have been having some fun over the last few weeks, making use of our Table Tennis table for an afternoon, needless to say some of us were a little out of practice! We held a coffee morning in Wooler again back in December raising just over £200, we would like to thank everyone for their help, purchases, and of course donations of prizes for the raffle from the local businesses in Berwick! We are holding our 3rd Year Anniversary today (10th Jan), feel free to pop in and celebrate with us! We would also again like to invite anyone (18+) who is suffering from any form of Mental Health problem to come and join us on a Wednesday from 10am - 4pm, either for a chat with our friendly members, or feel free to join in the activities for that week, you would be more than welcome!

Hi guys! The group are still going well and are heading out on a planned trip to Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery and Tibetan Centre this coming Wednesday! The trip is intended to help the group relax for a day in the Peace Garden of the monastery, and have a fun day out together along with some members of other local groups. We will be planning some further fund raising events very soon. Our loyal fundraisers James Bird and Amber Thomas will soon be undertaking a sponsored cycle ride around the full 27 mile Kielder Water route! They managed to raise over £1000 with their sponsored Kayak of the River Tweed over Easter weekend! We are very grateful to them both for their efforts, and to everyone who sponsored them! Here is the YouTube video from their trip.............

Hi Guys, just a quick update as I have been rather busy of late and have unfortunately neglected the site a little! We currently have a few things coming up to raise funds for the day centre. We have some kind volunteers doing both a sponsored cycle ride around Kielder Water later in the year, but these lovely people are also doing a sponsored Kayak down the River Tweed from 'Source to Sea'! Please feel free to make a donation in way of sponsorship for these events, using the PAYPAL donation button on our website and leaving a PAYPAL Note with it to say what it is for! ALL DONATIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

We are also hosting a coffee morning on Saturday 2nd April at Bamburgh Pavillion, Bamburgh, Northumberland. There will be an entry fee of £1.50 which covers your entry and Tea/Coffee and Biscuits. There will also be a Raffle, Tombola and Cake Stalls. Starting at 10am until 12/12:30pm. ALL ARE WELCOME and your support is appreciated.

We hope to see you for the coffee morning!!

Hi guys,

Since our last update things have been going from strength to strength. We are still pushing for local services in the mental health sector to recognise that we are here and available as a peer support group for any individuals wishing to attend. We have had some positive meetings and input from other groups including Ageing Well in Northumberland and other teams within the NHS. Gravity Radio Show sent there Mentally Sound team to do an interview with our chairman, and founder, Trevor Bird which is available on there website as a PODCAST, follow the link to listen to the show. http://mentallysound.jellycast.com/files/audio/show%209%20MS.mp3

September update

Hello guys! I haven't written anything in a couple of month as there has been a lot going on with the group. The group completed a sponsored walk around Berwick Town Walls and raised nearly £250, which was a fantastic effort by all involved, and a massive thank you goes out to all who took part. On Wednesday 16th September the group had a meal together at Lemoncello on Hide Hill, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A great time was had by all, and once again Lemoncello produced some wonderfully tasty treats from their Lunch Time Special menu. On Thursday 17th September myself and our Chairman, Mr Trevor Bird, both attended an NTW meeting in Newcastle were I gave a presentation on how the group were formed and what our aims and objectives are. We received high praise as a group for the way we have bounced back from the brink of losing a vital Day Service within North Northumberland.

We received information from other groups who wish to be associated with us and operate within the same format as ourselves, peer lead and user run! We have been invited to do a radio interview with a new Mental Health orientated radio station based in Newcastle, which we agreed to do. They wish to broadcast our story far and wide to try and help in both boosting the awareness of the group, and inform their listeners of the services and help that are out there, in essence raising awareness of Mental Health

Things are moving in the right direction here at Northern Spirit Berwick. We have secured funding as mentioned previously that secures our future as a group. There are some fundraising initiatives coming up shortly including, Walk the Walls, a sponsored walk around Berwick's town walls and golf course on Saturday 25th July. Please note that most of our members also have physical disabilities so this walk of around 2 miles will be a feat for all involved! If any one approaches you with a sponsor form please give generously! We also have a charity bag pack arranged for Saturday 1st August at Morrisons Berwick. The Jewellery Party with Charity Raffle raised a fantastic £202, a huge thank you to all those involved!

Hi guys! A lot has been happening over the last month! We have secured our immediate future at the premises at Wallace Green due to fundraising initiatives both on our own part and through some outside organisations. The Carers coffee morning held on Saturday 30th May raised a fantastic £175! A huge thank you goes to their staff for the organisation and running of the days events!

There will be a Jewellery Party held at Sinners Cafe, Berwick on Friday 26th June at 6pm which is open to everyone. The host of the party has kindly said they will hold a charity raffle for us on the evening, again, huge thanks are owed!

Finally, we intend to hold an OPEN DAY, MEET & GREET on Wednesday 29th July, the Centre will be open to anybody who wishes to find out more about what the group are here to achieve, or to see the kind of activities we provide. The day will include a short presentation by myself, Andrew Bird, secretary, outlining the objectives of the group for those who are interested. Doors will be open to guests from 11am until 2:30pm, with the presentation at 1:30pm and refreshments will be available. We look forward to seeing you on the day.

Again, a massive thank you to all those who have helped, and are continuing to help with the fundraising efforts.
